Project Activity: Housing Rehabilitation

The Kent Drive-Biscayne Drive housing rehabilitation project is a continuation of an effort to clean four blighted areas of Eufaula. It was initiated in 2008 and was begun in 2012 with the first of several Community Development Block Grants. The goal is to provide safe and decent housing in several neighborhoods. Twenty-three low and moderate-income families in the area will be affected by the latest housing rehabilitation project.

  • Previous grants addressed housing rehabilitation and demolition of dilapidated structures.
  • In addition to the Community Development Block Grant, which was awarded on an annual competitive basis, other funds will come from residents who have agreed to renovations and the city of Eufaula which applied for the grant.

Results
Many people in this area of Eufaula are nearly lifelong residents who, because of age or income, are unable to relocate. This ongoing project provides them with safe and decent housing, eliminates blight and unsafe structures and in general helps increase property values. The latest effort involves 23 houses which are being upgraded to standards established by the South Building Code Congress.

Funding
• CDBG – $450,000 (Large City Competitive Fund)
• Private funds $45,349.00 (estimated leverage match from homeowners)
• City of Eufaula- $28,600
Total  $523,949
